Hey there, Panda Guy! You were awesome! Not everyone is cut out to be the perfect panda, but you sure are. Maybe you'd like to volunteer to wear the panda suit at the CN Tower Climb at the end of April. You'll be mobbed! |

No Balloons were 'released' and no 'energy' will be needed to re-cycle. At the end of long but very rewarding day, a dedicated group of volunteers collected all the 4000 bio-degradable balloons (which had been weighted and placed around Metro Hall), popped and bagged them all for composting. The 4000 balloons didn't quite fill one bag when popped and will take about as long as 1 oak leaf (20 days) to decompose in a local back yard composter. The sand weights which were holding the balloons are re-used many times. Impact and Damage to environment has been minimal to none.

Doesn't anyone else see a fundamental flaw in the logic of releasing thousands of balloons and contributing to pollution. Even if by some small chance they are able to gather the residue and the get recycled, that require energy as well. In fact this whole thing contributes to over consumption, the making of the baloons in the first place and extra energy consumption to clean them up. A massive crowd of people wearing black would be just as effective with less of an ecological impact. |

recycling isn't a 100% returns thing, energy wise and thus resource wise, but sometimes you gotta spend money to make money, you know? you just try to pick the best and most efficient path |

how do you mean? latex is made from the sap of a tree. after the event, all of it will be composted. everything that can be re-used will, and everything that can be recycled will. the event is powered by renewable energy, the flyers are printed with vegetable-based ink on recycled paper. this is a green event! |

I think this is such a fantastic idea... global warming is a huge issue in our world but everyone blows it off! I'm really really sad that the volunteer e-mail went to my junkmail folder and so I didn't receive it until today because i would have LOVED to be involved with this.. so even though I can't help out, good on you for doing something so good! I think this is fantastic!! |
