On December 7th, 2010, we teamed up with Virgin Mobile to hold a massive simultaneous kiss under the world's largest mistlestoe. For each kissing couple, Virgin Mobile donated $5 to our favourite charity, WWF-Canada, and the kiss countdown was led by Degrassi's Charlotte Arnold and Raymond Ablack.

Update 25/11/10

That didn’t take long! Virgin Mobile got in touch with us and said they love the idea. When they asked what they could do to help, it was agreed that for every kiss under the mistletoe at 6:00 PM, Virgin Mobile will donate $5 to our favourite charity, WWF-Canada! We are very pleased and urge everybody to come and support :)

Introduction

Today, the largest mistletoe ever created is being unveiled by Virgin Mobile in Dundas Square at 6:00 PM. This instantly brought to mind a cute holiday activity we have wanted to host for a long time. The square will be totally transformed by Virgin Mobile with giant nutcrackers, snowflakes, and other adorable holiday themed stuff – seems perfect :)

The Big Kiss

Join us on December 2nd at 6:00 PM by participating in a massive, simultaneous kiss under Dundas Square’s new adornment. The countdown will be led by Degrassi’s Charlotte Arnold (Holly) and Raymond Ablack (Sav)!

Kiss a friend, a lover, a teddy bear, your cell phone, whatever ;) And remember the ancient Chinese proverb: “Kissing is like drinking salt water – having some only increases your thirst for more.”

Charity

For every kiss that takes place at 6:00, Virgin Mobile will donate $5 to our favourite charity, WWF-Canada! Every kiss counts, whether you kiss a friend, a stranger or something else.

Capture the Flag! Capture the Flag is a massive, adrenaline-pumping, urban game played on the streets of downtown Toronto. Two teams hide flags in their territory and attempt to capture the enemy flag using subways, streetcars, bicycles, longboards or their own two feet. Join us as we dash through the Financial District (the only ‘hood in T.O that doesn’t really have residences), evade the enemy, hide behind Toronto’s skyscrapers, travel through the PATH and score a point.

The Spoiler Alert signs are faith-enhancing adjustments to New York City subway platforms, creating opportunities for trust in the city’s most important institution in the face of its overeager self-quantified broadcasts.

In 2007, the New York City Transit Authority began installing LED signs on subway platforms that display estimated wait times for arriving trains. Unfortunately the information is little more than trivia: except for a few stations, it is only visible to travelers after they’ve paid their fare, so the data has little bearing on commuter decision-making.

These LED signs also threaten historical social behaviors, rendering obsolete the time-honored New York tradition of leaning over the platform edge with the hope of glimpsing headlights from an approaching train.

The Spoiler Alert signs warn waiting riders of this potentially unwanted information – allowing them to avert their eyes so they may preserve their spirit of adventure – while still leaving visible the data for travelers who wish to ruin the surprise for themselves.

Introduction

Each year, over 1,000 people converge in Times Square to blow millions of bubbles using all sorts of crazy contraptions. Loosely inspired by the Dr. Seuss book The Butter Battle Book, the event seeks to reshape the insanity of Times Square into a tranquil, joy-filled event.

Millions of bubbles fly through the air as we converge in Times Square for a magical bubble battle! Loosely based on the Dr. Seuss Classic The Butter Battle Book. Bring bubble toys, bubble generators, bubble solution, and plenty of AA batteries :) We will meet in Times Square, fill our weapons and pull the trigger!

Last year over 1,500 people came to take over Times Square and disseminate joy by the bubbles per minute. Be creative with your contraptions and take sides: butter side up or butter side down!

This event is being built by Urban Playground Movement NYC. Lightsaber Truck by Newmindspace. Here’s how the lightsaber truck will work: When you reserve a lightsaber, your name will be placed on a list, and an hour before the battle begins, we will start distributing lightsabers for the battle at a table. We will have plenty of permanent markers, so please write your initials on the handle.

Safety

Follow these simple rules to make sure everybody is safe:
+ Swing lightly, as there will be many people swinging at once
+ Don’t hit people in the face. This should be pretty obvious.
+ Goggles are stylish and a good way to protect your eyes!
+ When in doubt, tap out.

Volunteer

If you would like to help distribute lightsabers to people who reserved them send us an e-mail at love (at) newmindspace.com :)
