Throwies are a revolution in temporary art: invented by the <noindex>Graffiti Research Lab</noindex>, they can stick to anything that is ferromagnetic and glow for about two weeks. On December 8th, we will create a thousand points of light when we decorate a massive surprise with colourful brilliance. Each participant will be given a handful of these delightful devices and let loose simultaneously :)

Reclaim the stars!
Due to light pollution, some of our night lights have disappeared! To bring back the sky’s twinkle, we have decided to make some stars of our own. Join us for an evening of starcraft, constellation installation, hot cocoa and interactive towers of light. Please bring glowy things and a camera!

Time and Date
Night Lights will take place this Friday, November 10th, starting at 7:07pm and concluding at midnight. This event will be postponed in case of rain, fog or mud.

Location
University of Toronto (map) on and around Front Campus. which is 15 King’s College Circle.

To get there, take the College streetcar to McCaul and walk north one block OR take the Spadina streetcar to Willcocks and walk two blocks east, then through a walkway.

The Installations
1. Stars – Hundreds of LED’s will be suspended from helium balloons to create an artificial starscape, creating our own constellations and a twinkling Milky Way that should be visible for miles.

2. String of Diamonds – Long strings of LED’s will be suspended from weather balloons. As the wind and participants move the cords, the strings will appear to glitter.

3. Faeries – Much like the shoes hanging from our telephone wires, pairs of LED’s will be strung together and hung from trees like couples of faeries.

4. (fly)light by Pearl Chen – An animatrix sphere of 500 green LED’s. <noindex>website</noindex>

5. The Rothko Institute will light you up with 1,000 glowing bracelets!

Capture the Flag! Capture the Flag is a massive, adrenaline-pumping, urban game played on the streets of downtown Toronto. Two teams hide flags in their territory and attempt to capture the enemy flag using subways, streetcars, bicycles, longboards or their own two feet. Join us as we dash through the Financial District (the only ‘hood in T.O that doesn’t really have residences), evade the enemy, hide behind Toronto’s skyscrapers, travel through the PATH and score a point.

On March 28th 2006, we had a Dr. Seuss-themed party on a subway car to celebrate the birthdays of the subway and Lori.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY! SUBWAY PARTY
TUESDAY MARCH 28 2006
FINCH STATION // 11:10 PM
DR. SEUSS THEME!

The Poem

The Poem
Little Lori-Lou Who who was not more than 2(enty)
Is having a birthday and the fun will be plenty!
Bring her a present that’s fuzzy and pink
She also likes stars and cats, what do you think?

52 years and another four stops
The subway extension will surely be tops!
Oh, the places you’ll go! And the places you’ve been
Happy birthday, dear subway, let the party begin!

Come join newmindspace in our big celebration
Meet at the last car, at the tippy-top station!
Bring bubbles, and “bicycles! Roller skates! Drums!
Checkerboards! Tricycles! Cameras! And plums!”

The nicest of things is when you get involved
And we’ll see at the end how our party’s evolved!
So wear your Seuss costumes and bring your Seuss props
And make Seuss decorations with tubers and zots!

Every Who down in Whoville and foxes in socks
The Grinch stealing Christmas and fun in a box!
Sneetches, the Lorax, Thing One and Thing Two
The Cat in the Hat, the red fish and the blue!

Respect all the folks at the ol’ TTC
Keep the train clean and alcohol-free
Clean up the subway, please don’t make a mess
And that emergency alarm, don’t give it a press!

“If you never did, you should!
These things are fun and fun is good.”
Come have a great time and open your mind
Come have more fun than the whole world combined!

Our first ever pillow fight in New York City, the beginning of what would become our greatest tradition.

A massive pillow fight in New York City! Feathers fly and teddies soar as we gather for a massive urban pillow fight! Swing and whack as you evade pillow-wielding assailants. Bring a pillow to Union Square and wait for the signal. Pillow fight!

This was our first experiment with painting thousands of hearts on the sidewalk for Valentine’s Day. We gathered 50 volunteers, a bunch of plaster of paris and tempera, and stamped hearts along Queen St. West from Yonge St. to Bathurst St.

Our first ever streetcar charter, the theme was "magic" and we rode around the city in style, dressed as faeries and elves.

This winter, you are invited to join us for a special cruise on one of Toronto’s most beloved vessels: the streetcar.

We brought costumes, glitter, cameras, balloons, magic, decorations, glass slippers, snacks, wands, wings, props, toys and a friend! The theme of the evening was “magic” :)
